At Roots, we believe great food shouldn’t cost the earth. We work to ensure our food is ethically and locally sourced so that we can live in harmony with the planet that sustains us.
We also know just how important nutrition is to our wellbeing – mind, body and soul. That’s why we strive to create food that inspires and nourishes our physical, mental and emotional health.
Roots (Edinburgh) are delighted to announce the opening of our first site, Roots Deli and Salad Bar, serving yummy and exciting brekkies and lunches, smoothies, juices and coffees (and a whole bunch of other stuff) to the marvellous people of Edinburgh, from its newly refurbished spot on the lovely William Street at Edinburgh’s West End.
The values of Sustainability, Well-being and Community are super-important to the Roots gang, and are core to everything we think, make and do.
We grow lots of our own fruit and veg, and get the rest from amazing local growers, who care about the land and value natural resources. Around three quarters of everything we make is vegetarian, and at least half of that is vegan, but we make a huge effort to ensure that omni-eaters will also love these dishes. The meat, fish, dairy, eggs and honey that we also use, come only from suppliers who can guarantee that they have produced or sourced their products responsibly. We plant trees, we reuse, reduce, recycle, upcycle and compost, and we are working really, really hard to achieve zero waste.
The Roots team believes that nutrition is hugely important to our well-being – physical, mental and emotional, and prepare loads of healthy, balanced dishes, to help everyone be the best that they can be. We also know that sweet treats are important, so we make them little (and scrummy). The well-being and fair treatment of our team is core to everything we believe: we provide great working conditions, loads of employee benefits, and a happy, huggy, wholesome and balanced working environment.
This extends to our community work and support. We have already built amazing relationships with some fabby organisations, and are establishing a range of free community projects, offering nutrition and cookery classes to folks who have had some struggles, working with kiddies to learn more about growing and preparing food and eating well, and offering training in hospitality skills for those looking to get back to work.
At Roots, we welcome children and doggies and have special menus for both, which are balanced, delicious, wholesome and fun. (Our doggie menu has been co-designed by our wee pup, Douglas who is still sooo excited about it, that he tends to “greet” everyone who comes through the door really loudly. We’re working on that.) For those of you who aren’t able to stop by, we still provide our Roots catering service, both for the workplace and for special events.
We are jumping up and down with excitement, in anticipation of meeting you all, and sharing some delish Roots’ goodies and banter.
